Pete Gambardella ’92 - President and Director

Pete is a 1992 graduate of Benedictine who was honored to serve as the Battalion Commander his senior year.  While at Benedictine, Pete played soccer and baseball and was an honorable mention selection on the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-Metro baseball team for baseball in his senior year.  Pete went on to attend the University of Virginia from which he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology in 1996.

After graduating from UVA, Pete spent a short time counseling adolescent sex offenders before having the opportunity to teach chemistry and physics at Benedictine for 3 years.  While teaching, Pete served as the varsity soccer coach and an assistant baseball coach.  Pete then went on to earn a juris doctor degree from University of Richmond’s T.C. Williams School of Law in 2004.  While in law school, Pete continued to coach soccer and, in all, guided the Cadet soccer program for all or part of 7 years.  Pete is currently in private practice at the firm Spotts Fain, PC in Richmond.

Pete has served on the Benedictine Alumni Board since 2005 and was the Board President from 2008-2010.  He has also served on the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond Distinguished Leadership Awards Dinner Committee since 2005 and the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association state soccer committee since 2000.  Pete lives in Bon Air with his wife Kristin, daughters Carter (10) and Lexi (8), and son Anthony (5).  He and his family are parishioners at St. Edward’s.      


Johnny Cates ’70 - Vice President and Director

Johnny is a native of Richmond where he currently resides and he has two sons, Jack and Sam.  He previously served on the Benedictine Alumni Board and has served on the Board of Directors for the Easter Seals Richmond Chapter.  Johnny is a Past President of the Greater New Car Dealers Association, a Past President of the Board of Associates for the Virginia Home for Boys, and a past Member of the Board of Directors of the Better Business Bureau of Central Virginia. He has served on the Richmond Technical Center Advisory board and was named the school’s volunteer of the year for 2002. Johnny also served on the Governor’s Virginia Council for Career and Technical Education appointed by Governor James Gilmore.  Johnny also served on the board at the pleasure of Governor Mark Warner.  He now serves on the Richmond Public School Commission for Career & Technical Education.

Johnny is the General Manager for the Virginia Automobile Dealers Association.  He began his career in the automobile industry in 1986 with the Haywood Clarke Automotive Group.  During that time he served as Vice President & General Manager of the Haywood Clarke Auto Group. The Group had over 10 franchises and 6 stores. With more than 14 years’ experience in dealerships, Johnny joined the Virginia Auto Dealers Association in 2000 as VADA’s Automotive Youth Educational Systems (AYES) State Manager for Virginia.  Prior to entering automobile retailing Johnny worked for Loveland Distributing for 9 years.   Johnny is a 1970 graduate of Benedictine and attended the University of Richmond.  
 

Todd Hoyle ’92 - Treasurer and Director

A Richmond, VA native and a product of the St. Edwards Epiphany Parochial School, Todd is a 1992 graduate of Benedictine where he was a member of the varsity football, golf and basketball teams.  Todd went on to Hampden-Sydney College where he graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. Todd continued his education at the University of Richmond’s T.C. Williams School of Law where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 2000.

After law school, Todd spent the last 11 years practicing law both as an in-house corporate counsel and in private practice. Todd most recently joined the legal department at CapCenter Mortgage where he works in general corporate law, compliance and manages the company’s real estate closing and title subsidiaries.

Todd met his wife Jaime Hoyle, (also an attorney) while both were in their first year of law school and they have a son, “Jack” who attends 2nd grade at St. Bridget and a daughter “Ava” who will join her brother at St. Bridget in kindergarten next year.  

Todd continues to “attempt” to play in competitive basketball leagues and is an avid golfer. Todd and his family are members of Hermitage Country Club, and in addition to being a Director on the Benedictine Alumni Association, Todd is a member of the Leadership Advisory Board of the First Tee of Richmond.  
 

Patrick Gallagher ’00 - Director

Patrick is a Benedictine graduate from the class of 2000. He then attended James Madison University where he received a degree in Financial Economics. Upon graduation from JMU, he began working at Dominion Payroll Services, where he served in a variety of positions, most recently, Tax Manager. In 2010, Patrick saw an opportunity to add an additional product line to the offering of Dominion Payroll Services, and started DPS Merchant Services, where he serves as President and CEO.

Outside of running his company, Patrick has spent the past four years on the Benedictine Alumni Board, including the last two years as the President of the Board. In his time with the Board, he was able to introduce the Benedictine community to its newest annual fundraiser, the Alumni Association Boxing Smoker. In addition to helping Benedictine, Patrick also enjoys working out with SEAL Team PT and participating in area adventure/challenge races.
 

Bryan Mangas ’00 - Director

Bryan is a 2000 graduate of Benedictine and was a member of the school's 2000 State Championship Baseball team. After graduating from Hampden-Sydney College in 2006, he returned to the Richmond area and worked as a paralegal and business and marketing director at a criminal defense firm in downtown Richmond.  Bryan joined the firm of Sinnott, Nuckols and Logan and began January of 2012.

Bryan serves as the president of the Trolley Shops Association, an organization that promotes the business and community interests of Uptown Richmond at West Main and Vine Streets. He is also involved with Comfort Zone Camp and recently finished his first event with Running With Those That Can't, a charity that pairs runners with physically disabled children for various area races.  He is also an active member of the Hampden-Sydney Richmond Club and the Hampden-Sydney Young Alumni Club.
