Cadet Ronald J. Barnes Jr. to ride his bike across America
Imagine riding a bicycle across America. Charlottesville, VA to San Francisco, CA during the hottest time of the year. This is what Cadet RJ Barnes, Class of 2010 is doing this summer in order to "raise awareness of Autism." RJ will ride a total of 3,634 miles from July 1-August 15th. RJ has raised $2,328 so far. RJ is also an outstanding student at BHS. To find out more about RJ's journey, go to http://www.autism-society.org/goto/RjBarnes or to his web-site, RJBarnes32.webs.com.
Here is what RJ told us the other day:
"I have been training quite hard lately in preparation for the bike ride this summer. This past week I went from my house in Goochland County to Charlottesville. The total mileage for this trip was about 160 miles and it took me two days to complete. I have been fundraising and speaking with potential sponors. Yesterday, I spoke with Monica Glave from Fruit 66. Fruit 66 is going to give me a cycling jersey to wear throughout my trip. Also, they are going to give me a camera that I can mount on my helmet to video some parts of my trip. I am also receiving donations from an energy gummy bear company called "Loud Truck Gummies," based out of Washington State. They are going to give me energy gummies! A bike shop down in Florida "University Bicycle Shop" donated lasting tires and inner tubes. I have ben quite busy. I am so thankful for these sponosors and donors."
The following publications will be featuring RJ and his story in their May/June issues:
Richmond Magazine, Autism Spectrum, Richmond Giving, Style Weekly, The Faison School Newsletter, and The Autism Society Newsletter.
