This past weekend was the 3rd Annual BHS/SGHS 5K Challenge. To say it was a success is an understatement. With almost 600 registered, we doubled our participation from the first year, and blew our goal of 400 out of the water! Between Saint Gertrude's and Benedictine, there were 155 registrants/participants who were students or parents of current students. Coach Ryan Hall and Coach Kevin Stodd clocked in with very impressive times. Thank you, Coaches, for encouraging your teams to participate! In addition to 600 runners and walkers, we had over 20 volunteers! To those who arrived at 7:30 a.m. to assist with set up, THANK YOU! Thank you to Father James for the opening prayer. Also, thank you to our dedicated 5K Race Committee who helped organized the race and ensure it was a success. We could not have done it without each of you.
Three students: Andrew Tait, Josh Pilot, and Ryan Henry stayed until the very end, and even took out the trash. Thank you so much! Mr. Fred Ortiz, parent of Nicholas Ortiz ‘12, was the charming announcer, who did an excellent job. Mr. Bumbulsky who came to run, pitched in when the plumbing in the restroom broke down. Brett Keller wrote the newsletter that we sent out to all the students to help advertise. Steve Martin, and Sean Dolan helped in so many ways, from hanging the banner to carrying tables across the school for easy set up. Nutzy the Flying Squirrel made an appearance and so did BHS alum Eric Seidel ’61 as Recycle the Clown. So many were involved in making this race the success it was and we want to thank you. Without all the volunteers, sponsors and participants it wouldn't have been as much fun as it was.
Please take a look at our list of generous sponsors, beginning with Bon Secours. Without your support and involvement, we would not have had such a successful 5k! Also, don’t forget to check out the race results, so you can find your time to beat for next year!
Many thanks to everyone for a wonderful day!
