5.17.2011 - Tuesday evening the Corps of Cadets gathered to watch the culmination of a years’ worth of efforts from our best speakers. The Benedictine Speech Festival showcases the best eight cadet speakers during the year. Many of the participating cadets spoke for the first time in front of a large audience, this required courage and determination, and all did an exceptional job. The evenings’ topic was the value of a catholic military education.
All placing cadets received a JROTC medal, and signed copy of The Wrong War by Bing West. First prize received a $2,000 scholarship for their next year of education, and a copy of The Essential American, a book of great American public speeches. The corps and attending parents also enjoyed a light-hearted comedy routine from guest judge Garrett Chester ’73 and a performance from the Benedictine Drum Line.
Congratulations to winner Matthew Armentrout, 2nd place Hunter Nichols, and 3rd place John Michael Montgomery.
Thank you to our guest judges, all Benedictine graduates, Hon. Denis F. Soden ‘64, Mr. Chip Bliley ’67, and Mr. Garrett Chester ’73.
