Yesterday evening, by a vote of six to three, Goochland County’s planning commissioners approved a conditional use permit for the Benedictine Abbey. The conditions of this permit will allow Benedictine to operate its academic facilities on the Abbey property. Some conditions of the permit relate to the time-phased student population growth of the school, sound impacts on surrounding areas, water consumption and traffic management plan. Members of the monastic community and their professional lay advisors have worked closely with Goochland County staff over the recent months to present a compelling case and achieve this noteworthy political accomplishment. Thank you to all of the Benedictine community for your prayers and words of support in this important process. God willing, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors will approve the planning commissioners’ recommendation this fall and Benedictine will open doors at its new campus in August of 2012.
Semper Fidelis and God bless,
