GOOCHLAND VOTE POST-PONED
	On 6 September, the Goochland County Board of Supervisors approved the Benedictine Society of Virginia’s request to defer the final vote on Benedictine’s CUP for 90 days. During this period, the Benedictine Society and employees of the school will continue to educate the residents of Goochland on the facts and implications of Benedictine’s move. The Society and school have addressed all water supply, sewage and traffic issues according to public codes and standards and with sincere effort to minimally impact our Goochland neighbors. Yet, some residents’ concerns have been roused by a misinformation campaign propagated through print and telephonic media by opponents of the school move. After consideration of concerns, the Society determined to spend additional time educating Goochland residents through multiple medias and venues. The public commentary of the board meeting began in spirited fashion with a catchy banjo song, "Let 'em In" by Jim Connor, formerly of the John Denver Band. Mr. Connor's pro-Benedictine song was received with cheers and laughter from many gracious alumni, faculty, students and residents in attendance. A video of Mr. Collin's song is included below for your enjoyment. The Goochland Board of Supervisors will hear Benedictine’s CUP request in December, 2011.

	Refurbishment of Abbey Continues
	Benedictine College Preparatory continues to prepare for its move to the Abbey in the fall of 2012. This summer, the Benedictine Society of Virginia invested approximately $400,000 in the refurbishment of the exterior of the Abbey’s academic wings. The new façade includes two energy efficient windows per panel to increase the natural light within the building. Storefront glass walls will also be added to the new mess hall and fine arts wing to create a connection with the green natural environment around the school. The view towards the athletic fields from our mess and lecture halls will be stunning. The facade is colored “Abbey Brown” to reflect the earthish tones affectionately associated with the historic buildings on Sheppard Street. Work on the new exterior of the Abbey is expected to be completed before the conclusion of football season.

	Father Adrian Education Fund This year, the Office of Advancement will raise $450,000 for Benedictine through the Father Adrian Education Fund. The Father Adrian Education Fund reflects the power of what individuals can do when they come together. Last year, hundreds of alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty and staff, and friends of Benedictine gave gifts, large and small, to support all of the programs that keep Benedictine strong. Annual gifts support competitive athletic programs, leadership training, tuition assistance, and much, much more. When called upon, please reflect on what you and your family can give to Benedictine this year. If you would like to make a gift now, please click here. Benedictine and Saint Gertrude Fight Cancer! During the month of October, Saint Gertrude and Benedictine are joining forces to fight cancer. Cadet and Gator athletes will lead the schools’ efforts by wearing pink; the Benedictine Varsity Football team will wear pink, camouflage T-Shirts under their jerseys at the Homecoming game. WE NEED YOUR HELP! To raise money, we are selling the camouflage T-shirts. All proceeds will benefit the Cullather Brain Tumor Quality of Life Center at St. Mary’s Hospital, which provides support and services to brain tumor patients and their families. Jean Tucker Cullather, SGHS alumna, and her son Chris lost their lives to brain tumors. Jean’s husband Jack attended Benedictine.
