January 2012 News and Notes
Update on Benedictine’s Move to the Abbey:
When you drive onto the Abbey campus, you’ll notice that several changes have taken place, but perhaps the most visible project sits between the football and soccer fields.  What currently looks like a city skyline of pvc is the site for the new locker room.  The foundation and the rough plumbing for the locker room are complete, and the concrete floor has been laid on top of it.  While it may not look like much now, the plan is to have a complete locker room, with offices for coaches and a laundry facility, before school starts in the fall.

The locker room will be used by the baseball, cross country, football, lacrosse, soccer, and track teams.  However, completion of this project is contingent on receiving restricted donations to the locker room project.  Currently, the lockers continue to be located in what will be the 3-D Art Room in the Arts Wing of the school building.
The Arts Wing will have classrooms for music, 2-D, and 3-D art.  The Music Room, which is complete except for some new paint, will accommodate Benedictine’s new Pipe and Drum Corps – a group of 14 students who made their debut performance during halftime at the BCCC.
The 2-D Art Room, which will include painting and drawing, needs countertops and flooring in order to be completed.  The 3-D Art Room, which will house the ceramics equipment, including kilns, will be completed as soon as the lockers are moved out. All of these rooms will have a view of Our Lady of Victory Courtyard, a spiritual courtyard at the center of the school building.

The Father Adrian Education Fund(Annual Fund):
Benedictine needs your support.  The Annual Fund is crucial to sustaining the excellent Benedictine education you have come to know, for the following reasons:

The Annual Fund’s Flexibility – Because the Annual Fund represents operating support for current use, it affords the headmaster and board of trustees the flexibility to meet special needs – and opportunities – as they arise.

The Annual Fund’s Priority – The flexibility of unrestricted funds and the undergirding of operating support make the Annual Fund the most valuable kind of support (dollar for dollar) for an independent school.

The Annual Fund’s Inclusiveness – The Annual Fund allows everyone to be a part of Benedictine’s top fundraising priority.

If you have already made a gift, please accept our sincere thanks.  If you have not, we hope you will take a few moments to show your support.  Please clickhereto make a gift now.

All contributions to the Fr. Adrian Education Fund are independently managed by the Benedictine Educational Foundation. The Foundation is a separate corporation from the high school and monastery that raises money to support Benedictine's students, services and capital projects.
Recent Accomplishments:

The Benedictine robotics team, FTC Team 1033,Team CLUTCH, recently competed against 24 other Robotics teams at Norfolk State University at the Eastern Virginia Qualifier.  Our team was ranked 2nd overall going into the playoff round and won the championship match.  It was an exciting finish as our robot climbed to the top of a ramp and extended a mechanical arm while holding a crate as time expired to earn the points needed for victory.  Additionally, our team won the PTC Design award. The PTC design award is given to the team who has the best design of a robot or component.  This victory qualified our team for the State Championship Competition to be held March 3, 2012 at the Arthur Ashe Center.  Other teams that will be competing are St. Christopher and Deep Run.

The Rifle Team won first place in the Old Dominion Rifle League Rifle Contest last weekend.

Benedictine’s Drill Team placed first in the Challenger Level Armed Platoon Drill at the Martin Luther King Drill Meet.
