A Back-to-school special!

Class of '23 gets a "warm" welcome!  Sunny skies on the first day of Orientation were somewhat clouded by stormy seniors as BCP welcomed its latest freshman class, shown here in various states of attention and parade rest.  Don't worry:  They'll get it right!

Guidance News and Information

Seniors and Senior Parents- College Information Session
Please mark September 12 on your calendar for a College Information Session in the school auditorium at 7 p.m. Information about the college application process and choosing the right schools will be reviewed.
Before this session, seniors are encouraged to update their resumes and to continue identifying a list of prospective colleges
Additional appointments to discuss college planning can be made with Michele Metcalfe at https://calendly.com/mmetcalfe. Click on the blue dotted College Planning option at this website to select a time.

Senior Class Meeting
This week seniors were also encouraged to begin (or continue) working on their college applications, including the Common Application, if applicable. Students should be assessing which schools require teacher recommendations, personal essays, and the types of shorter personal statements required on most applications. Students will then need to create and finalize these writings and request a recommendation from a selected teacher at least two weeks before it is due.
Each application typically requires the submission of our high school transcript. This can be initiated in the guidance office by completing a Request for Transcript form. These requests for Benedictine transcripts also need a two-week turnaround, so please plan accordingly.
COMING SOON: COLLEGE APPLICATION WORKSHOPS: To facilitate the application and resume drafting process, seniors were polled on their interest in attending a series of before or after school workshops. Times and locations for these workshops will be announced next week.

Seniors - NCAA Eligibility
Students who plan to play sports at the Division I or Division II level in college are required to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at the end of their junior year. To register, go to www.eligibilitycenter.org . Also, if not previously done, please complete a transcript request form to request the submission of your Benedictine transcript to the NCAA. These forms can be found in the front office or in the guidance office.

Juniors and seniors – Standardized Testing
If you still need to take one or both of the standardized tests, register now for a fall ACT and/or SAT testing date. The next ACT (late) registration deadline is August 26 for the September 8 test. The next SAT registration deadline is Sept. 7 for the October 6 test.

Underclassmen Meetings – Preparing for the New Year
All new and returning students met this week as a class to think about the new year. The themes were RESUMES, REPUTATIONS AND REFLECTIONS, with students encouraged to reflect on how they have developed their resumes in the last year and what nouns and adjectives people use when thinking about them based on their classroom behavior, motivation, athletic development, spiritual devotion, and overall personal growth. Students were encouraged to refresh their goals relating to each of these areas while also committing to setting their sights on broadening their experiences and contributions to the community.
