Meaningful Memorial Mass: Benedictine holds its semi-annual Memorial Mass
By Will Kennon ‘21

On Friday, March 15, the Corps of Cadets marched in memory of all the members of the Benedictine family who had recently passed away, followed by a Mass (celebrated by Abbot Placid).

Beginning at 9:30, the Corps marched from the tennis courts and around the three flags in front of the building. It performed a pass and review in front of the Corps staff, the school's faculty and the alumni, who were joined by their family and friends.

Once the Corps had reached their destination around the flags, they saluted as the flags were lowered. The names of the fallen Benedictine family members were read and a bell was tolled for each name read. The band played the bagpipes and drums during the solemn ceremony. "The band didn't do their best," said sophomore drummer Alex Aboulhosn. "But the message of the whole ceremony was [incredibly] thoughtful."

Once the outside ceremony concluded, the Cadets and their guests filed into the church for Mass. The names of the passed were read again during the petitions by Deacon Bob. These names were Rev. Kieran A. Neilson, Francis Harmon Foley, Jr. '47, Phillip Gordon Pettit, Jr. '48, Raymond Lago '49, Horace Francis Hicks, Sr. '50, Robert Lee Schutte '51, Louis Joseph Marroni '54, Edward L. Fall, Jr. '55, Danielle Patrick Dumochelle '57, John David Lange '60, Edward Wayne Morris '60, Harry Thomas Street '71, George Timothy Cates '72 and James Albert Carel '80.

May they rest in peace.
