On Saturday, March 16, numerous Cadets gathered in the church with their fathers to celebrate the annual Father and Son Mass.
The event provided an opportunity to allow fathers and sons to bond with one another. The highlight of the evening was the guest speakers, Nigel Williams Class of 2012 and his father, Lamar Williams.
After the Mass ended, Associate Headmaster Mr. Bussman provided all in attendance with an agenda for the evening. The menu for the evening consisted of chicken parmesan, made by Benedictine's own Chef Alan. Chef also provided the fathers and sons with a salad, stuffed shells and green beans. Before the speech, an icebreaker game was initiated by Headmaster Mr. Jesse Grapes. The game that was put forward was to come off with the "worst punishment" ever received by a Cadet. After prizes were given out, the guest speakers took the floor. During their speech, they described their personal relationship with one another and what it means have a strong relationship. Their speech had its own taste of the Benedictine view of life between a father and son. "I thought it was great to spend the evening with my dad," said Kyle Joyce Class of 2021. "It was a good bonding experience to hear the speakers."
The speech caught the attention of the room and was well regarded by the Cadets and their fathers.
The Father and Son Mass is a well attended event by the freshman class, and the future looks promising. The guest speakers are well worth seeing, with past speakers such as Ben Wallace and Nigel Williams, who both reached the professional sports level and have a connection to Benedictine.
