On Thursday, May 2 at about 2:30, the entire Battalion donned their Dress B uniform and mustered in the parade deck to observe the Change of Command, in which the rising seniors received their rank and billot for next year. The sponsors from Saint Gertrude and other spectators stayed to watch the occasion as well.
This ceremony symbolizes that the senior’s mission for the year is complete, and it is now the juniors’ job to take on the responsibility of administering the Corps of Cadets. On the parade deck, each senior handed his rank to the junior was was replacing them. "It was a very interesting event,” said freshman Victor Aguilar.
The juniors applied to the new positions a few weeks prior to the event. Their applications were carefully reviewed by Colonel York and some of the seniors to determine the best fit for the specific billot the Cadet would be filling.
The winners for each position were announced only a few hours prior, after the Military Awards Ceremony concluded.
Some of the bigger announcements were John Colizzi being named Battalion commander, Christian Dunn becoming Command Sergeant Major and Cullen Vita taking the spot of Battalion Executive Officer. The new Company Commanders are Will Garbett for Alpha Company, Francis Boehling for Bravo Company, Timothy Grumblatt for Charlie Company, Nick Turner for Band, Reese De Vries for Honor Platoon and Tony Ibanez for Headquarters..
Since the juniors have taken over formation, spots have been left in formations that the juniors used to fill. Sophomores and freshmen are scrambling to fill these holes by filling positions such as first sergeant, platoon sergeant and squad leader.
The juniors will be running formation for the rest of the school year, and they will run it all of next year as well (that is, until they hand it over to the Class of '21).
