The Benedictine Cadets will take on Virginia Episcopal this Wednesday in their last season at the Rut.
The Cadets opened up the season strong against Collegiate, winning 74-67 in which sophomore Jaden Daughtry led the team with 18 points. They traveled to Cape Henry this Tuesday but dropped a close one to a solid However, each of the last two games have been away. Wednesday marks the last-ever “first” home game at Coach Rut Court which has been home to the Cadets for more than 50 years.
"We have a lot of kids in our class that are energetic and passionate about being a great student section," said senior Sean McGranahan. "Since it's the last season at the rut our themes and student attendance for home games carries a little bit more weight than usual."
The 2019-20 team features a handful of sophomores and one freshman. With such a young group of guys playing at a high level the program looks promising going forward.
"A lot of us feel like this is year for basketball to do something big," said senior Henry Hunt. "With football winning states this year, I feel like a lot of other teams are going to bring that same success."
Benedictine travels to Woodberry Forest this Friday to wrap up the three-game week and then will turn their attention to Amelia Academy and Church Hill. The Cadets will also participate in the Bullis Tournament before Christmas Break.
