The Sponsors Ball was held on Saturday, December 7 in the old Benedictine gymnasium on Sheppard St. It was a very successful event in which the high-ranking seniors and their sponsors were able to be recognized for all of their hard work this year.
The dance was held from 8 p.m and lasted until 10 p.m. The first hour of the dance consisted of the Sponsors and their Sponsoring Officers walking out and getting recognized by their parents and then the lucky freshmen (little brothers) who received a kiss on the cheek.
After all of the couples were processed out, the Sponsoring Officers and their Sponsors danced the Waltz, as is traditional at Benedictine. "All of the hard work we have been putting since early October has finally paid off," said Christian Dunn '20. "A lot of people thought we would mess up, so it was nice to prove them wrong."
For those Cadets who are not seniors, the Sponsors Ball was an opportunity to take a young woman out for dinner before, and enjoy the informal part of the dance with his date and friends. Once the formal part of the dance concluded there was a DJ who got all of the Cadets up and moving. "The dance was really fun," said Michael Morrissey '22. "It is an opportunity to kick back and spend some time with your friends."
Sponsors has been a tradition ere at Benedictine for ages, and is something that defines Benedictine. It is a tradition that is well known at Benedictine and, hopefully, will be going on for decades to come. "Sponsors Ball is one of the best events here at Benedictine because it brings the Corps together," said Hunter Cheely '22. "It gives us an opportunity to enjoy ourselves."
