On Fridays, Cadets will have half-days that start at 7:45 a.m. and end at 12:15 p.m. to allow teachers and staff to evaluate how well the school year is going and to adjust as needed. The half-day Fridays will end on October 23, unless they are further required.
This is a new process at Benedictine to make time for a faculty meeting to assure that everyone is as safe as possible and to perfect the many changes made to Benedictine as COVID-19 precautions. The meeting also serves as a platform to find ways to improve ways of teaching during this hectic year.
Classes have been shortened down to 25 minutes, and lunch has been removed to cut the school day in half.
These half-days are in addition to a late start of school, on September 8 instead of the beginning of August, and more teacher workdays at the beginning of the year. In addition to fewer school days, many Cadets have been dismissed from a couple of otherwise mandatory school events, such as the Commissioning Exercise, Catholic Mass, Freshman Hop, etc. These events have either been removed or heavily modified to include fewer occupants. Teachers have a full day to themselves at Benedictine on various days as an inservice workday, and Cadets have these days off. This contrasts with last year's system of nearly every Tuesday having an hour and a half delay so that the faculty could have a meeting earlier that morning.
Teachers quickly lead Cadets out of the school building in order to start their meetings on these Fridays, and Cadets have no formation unless told otherwise.
