On Friday May 21, Benedictine and Saint Gertrude had their annual prom for the junior and senior Cadets and Gators. The event was held at Benedictine's auxiliary gymnasium' but attendees were also allowed to walk outside as well, and the event ran from 7-9:30 p.m.
The set up for prom required help from a few Cadets, whom the teachers in charge selected. The teachers in charge were Mrs. Esparza, Ms. Lowry and Ms. Lonergan. The Cadet volunteers set up tables, linen, chairs, the tents for the guests who went outside and the lights for outside, as well. These three did a stellar job organizing and directing the decorations and set up as the attendees all seemed to enjoy their time spent at the dance. "I truly enjoyed my time at prom on Friday," said Senior Dillon Tennyson. "It was a great way to conclude my time here at Benedictine and I appreciate the teachers who organized the event and all of the behind the scenes work that went into it. They allowed me to enjoy a great night with my friends."
The attendees showed up to the event in the best of their suits and dresses, and a few even pulled up in their best cars. Food, drinks and snacks were all served to the attendees and supervisors. Something that the Cadets did not get a big taste of this year, which was being able to go around campus without a mask as was permitted at the dance. All outside attendees were required to have a negative COVID test within the last seven days or proof of vaccination. This allowed for all of the attendees to be proven of being 100% COVID free, so masks were not required.
The event seemed to satisfy all of its attendees, especially the seniors. The seniors will not get another chance to dress up and have fun with each other and enjoy their time together while still attending Benedictine like they did at this prom. This event was the seniors' last ride at Big Green, and they feel satisfied by this final event. "The event was great," said senior Josh Shaw. "The only other time where I can dress up and have fun with my guys like I did will be graduation, and that will be more sad than fun. My time here flew by and I am glad that I did not take it for granted as it will hurt to graduate and have to step away from Benedictine."
