Starting in August of this year T. J. Baldwin and his fellow Cadet David Ngendakuriyo have been volunteering at Saint Francis Hospital on Sundays and Saturdays respectively. "I probably wouldn't work anywhere else," T. J. stated. "I feel like it's the right place for me."
When they are at the hospital, their jobs include discharging patients, delivering flowers, dropping off newspapers and bringing tools for surgeries. The two also make lab runs, which is when T. J. or David is tasked to bring chemicals or scans to a doctor or another employee, and bring patients their mail.
One of Baldwin's work-related stories is when he brought an elderly man who was unable to walk to his car while he was discharging him. David indicated he enjoys his time at the hospital, "It makes me feel like I'm doing something right," David stated. "It makes me feel good about myself".
During their time at the hospital they met and interacted with some other volunteers and staff at the hospital such as Dede Forester, who volunteered with them at the hospital during the summer for volunteer hours for her high school. They also worked with a women who worked at the front desk named Mrs. Davidson.
One day, while at the hospital, David went into the ICU for unspecified reasons but most likely it was to bring one of the patient's mail or a gift from a loved one. He had mixed feelings about seeing the ICU, "I felt uncomfortable, because I felt sad for the patients." David stated.
Overall, though, he gave the impression of liking it. "It's definitely a job for mentally strong men." David said.
When T.J. was asked about how the work environment was and what he felt about the job, "I liked the job," T.J. said. "I liked the work environment".
