Within the last couple weeks, members of the senior class of '22 have met with college representatives to find out more information about the college they'd like to consider attending.
Mr. Pinkerton, the new BSoR school counselor, had organized separate times for seniors to meet with these representatives and talk more with them about what they are offering.
Mrs. Metcalfe, the former school counselor, had previously helped out seniors with college plans, but Mr. Pinkerton now takes charge of regulating details and events out to both Benedictine and St. Gertrude. Seniors were made sure to email him about which colleges they'd like to attend the meeting for and why.
One of the meetings that was offered for seniors to attend was with a UVA representative. Seniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and higher only were allowed to attend this session. The University of Virginia is a public university located in Charlottesville. According to their given student brochure, UVA is ranked as the Fourth-Best Public National University by U.S. News and World Report and ranked as the top Best-Value College in Virginia by Forbes.
Seniors were able to hear what the college offered in terms of majors, application process, housing, and campus environment. "I thought the representative did a good job of showing every aspect of the school and its environment there," said Ethan Altovilla. "She was very helpful in letting me understand what daily life is like at UVA."
This was one of many college representatives that seniors were able to attend the meeting for in order to help them figure out their best-suited college. Representatives from JMU were on campus that same week. Benedictine has sent a long list of graduates to the two schools, including several from the most recently graduated Class of '21.
