Menacing Midterms: Review on Benedictine Midterms

The Benedictine Cadets took their midterm exams during the holidays leading right up until Christmas, hosting them from December 15 to December 20, with extra days for makeup on December 21 and 22 and January 3.

Benedictine is one of few programs in the area that have midterms in their curriculum. Transfer student DJ Buck stated, “Having midterms was rough because I missed a week of review and I was not fully a custom to the rigorous amounts of studying I had to do, But I do like the setup because I feel like it's putting me in a college-like atmosphere.”

The exam schedule went as such the students would take each subject except for any classes exempt from exams in the order in which their periods normally follow. The first exam period started at 8:30 a.m. and finished at 10:30 a.m. and the second exam period started at 11:30 a.m. with its conclusion being at 1:30 p.m. The students were allowed 15 minutes of prep time and two hours monitored by a proctor to finish the exam.

Many Cadets, like Cadet Baylor Stinson, expressed that the scheduling of the exams was "100 times better than prior test schedules because the new schedule allows your brain to breathe after each exam."

Stinson added, "It was also nice because almost all my teachers offered some sort of help before the test, which helps a lot."

The makeup days followed a different schedule and set up, they started at 9:00 a.m. with two or more hours provided to each student depending on however many tests they had to make up. Instead of being hosted in the classes' respective homeroom, the exams were taken in room 215 with the academic dean Mrs. Esparza and a teacher as proctor. Cadet Jacob Adair, who had to take multiple makeup exams, said, "The opportunity to take the test on a prior day was a blessing but that experience taking multiple in one sitting was stressful, to say the least".
