Last Tuesday, October 30, representatives from Virginia Tech and South Carolina spoke to Cadets in the afternoon. Due to the amount of interest Cadets displayed, the meetings took place in the lecture hall ,which is unusual for a college visit, as they are usually held in the guidance office.

Roughly 30 Cadets from grades 10 through 12 attended each of these meetings. Mrs. Metcalfe, who is the director of guidance, called Virginia Tech in for a visit due to the amount of interest the current senior class has in the school. “Roughly 20 Cadets out of 50 are expected to apply to Virginia Tech this upcoming year,” said Metcalfe.“This is the largest number out of any other university in the school.”

"Virginia Tech is my number one school," said senior Gabe Bowman. "I like that you don't have to send in an official transcript and that they don't go deep down into what your high school career was like."

The Benedictine Class of 2018 had a total of eight students attend Virginia Tech last year. Numerous Cadets have achieved success as Hokies. Three of those BCP graduates got admitted into Tech's rigorous engineer program. Recent graduate of the class of 2017, Gene Kastleberg is a member of the football team at Tech.

Although there are very few Cadets who have attended South Carolina in the past couple years, their is a vast amount of interest. South Carolina ranks as the second most popular college the current Class of 2019 is considering.

Mrs. Metcalfe expects to see Cadets apply to colleges with a wide variety of geographic features. These schools include UVA, ODU, JMU, Hampden Sydney, Radford, East Carolina, High Point, Elon, Coastal Carolina, VMI, Christopher Newport, College of Charleston, VCU, Lynchburg and many more along across the East Coast.

The college application process is starting to take full effect. It is highly recommended that all Cadets who need help or have questions about anything related to their college applications should attend the application workshop on November 14, in the evening. It is coordinated around all athletic practices, and pizza will be provided!
