Benedictine College Preparatory was defeated by Amelia Academy in its first game of the Fall Basketball League Saturday afternoon, 69-65. This is the second year of the Cadets playing in the league, and they got off to a less-than optimal start. They have games every Saturday at Meadowbrook High School.
The team was down by 13 at the half but crawled back to tie the game with about three minutes remaining. Jackson Cray, Benedictine shooting guard, said “We played well, but we could do better and hopefully get the win next time.”
The 1:30p.m. game had fans and parents in attendance. Jay Robinson led the team in scoring with 25 points including a poster dunk that made the fans jump out of their seats. Noah Lindsey also made several extraordinary plays to help Benedictine. Cray added six points. Despite their efforts, the Cadets fell short. Cray said, "We started off slow, but made improvements in the second half."
The Cadets ran a man-to-man defense on Saturday. The team's participation in this league is chiefly to prepare for this winter's regular season. The Fall League has many games remaining, so support the Cadets in their upcoming match.
