As the school year closes out the varsity baseball team refuses to slow down as it prepare to fight for a VISSA Division One state championship.
The Benedictine varsity baseball team will have a home VISAA quarterfinals game with the winner of the Paul VI vs Norfolk Christian game on Tuesday, May 14 at 4:30 p.m.
Those two teams are playing at 1:00 p.m. on the same day, due to their contest being delayed because of soggy fields.
The Benedictine varsity baseball team has been earning plenty of positive attention this year after earning the number one slot in the Virginia Division One rankings. The Cadets are also ranked #10 in the entire nation by USA Today.
After the gloomy loss to Norfolk Academy in the state playoffs the last year, the baseball team is coming for a second attempt, and is red-hot. After defeating Poquoson High School, 12-6, Trinity Episcopal School, 8-2, and St. John Paul the Great, 15-0, the baseball team has been on a winning run. "The baseball team has performed well and worked hard this season," said sophomore Victor Johnson. "I'm glad to be a part of the team."
The quarterfinal game will start at 4:30 p.m. (with a five dollar admission fee) on the Benedictine College Prep home field.
The official end of the baseball season may be coming, but the coaches and Cadets plan to keep the spirit alive with summer camps. But, for now, all eyes will be on Hyman Field, starting Tuesday afternoon.
